The BOTS app reviews: René

Each BOTS app user has his or her personal reasons for investing through the app. But what are these reasons? What motivates them to trade with BOTS? Well: let's ask them! Today it's René's turn - who wants to stop working at an early age.

René

René recently asked his son what he wanted to be when he grows up. “And it was at that point that I realized the answer doesn’t really matter. You can always switch jobs. It’s not like it used to be.”

René himself trained as a bread and pastry baker and has practised this job for many years. “I fairly quickly realized that this wasn’t the job I wanted to do until I retired. Not only is it physically demanding, but it also asks certain sacrifices of your social circle. You always start the day extremely early, and work when others have their days off.”

René, now 50 years old, made a career switch: he’s now working at a bank. “It simply started with a customer service job, and internal and external training made me grow into my current position. Anything’s possible.”

René and the BOTS app

And although René really likes his job, he still wants to stop working at an earlier age. “At least partly,” he says. And René is a man with a plan…

“I’ve been investing in stocks for years. And then one Sunday morning I ran into BOTS at Harry Mens.” René, a certificate holder, reports. “And after that Sunday morning, I wanted to start using the BOTS app myself. I think you should know what you’re investing in.”

He started his first bot in June 2020. “I deposited €50 to discover the app. I now have about 20 bots running via the BOTS app.”

Same as for his investments in equities, René also has a strategy for his BOTS investments. “I start each bot with €50, and if it makes more than a 10% return, I deposit another €50. If the return exceeds 20%, I will add €100 and so on. Up to a maximum of €400 per bot. If a bot only makes little returns, I stop it.”

Through his previous experiences with investing, René knows not to panic when the prices drop. “And I trust the bots to do the same. Prices will always fluctuate, but a bot is built in such a way that it handles these drops well. If I wouldn’t let the bots do their job, I’d better start day trading myself. And that’s the opposite of what I want to achieve.”

This is also the main advice René gives to friends and acquaintances who he has introduced to the BOTS app. “Let it work for you, and don’t act on your own. Just like you would with other ways of investing.”

René uses the BOTS app for the long term. “I now have a 55% return on my total BOTS portfolio. Since June. I don’t feel the need to withdraw this at all. You invest for the long run. I don’t have an end date.”

René’s BOTS goals

When will it be enough? René has thought about that. “Look, getting rich investing is not a goal in itself. I would like to be able to partly stop working before my late sixties, but also want to be able to live comfortably. For example, I really like to have a drink or go out for dinner. I want to be able to continue to do that.”

Thanks to his investment strategy, René will soon have the opportunity to partly replace the income from his full-time job, with the income from his investments. Something he would also like to pass on to his son. “I opened an investment account for him, and we often have a look at it. An increasing balance obviously triggers his interest!” On the other hand, he also wants to teach his son how to avoid mistakes. “I once invested in a share, that failed miserably. You learn from these types of investments, and that’s what I want to teach him: to spread the risk. And that is no different for the BOTS app. I didn’t put all my money on one bot, but I spread my investment over several.”

Ultimately, René hopes that, in addition to his own partial early retirement, he will also be able to support his son financially. “Wouldn’t it be great if I could help him buy his first home? That’s worth a lot to me.”

There is no such thing as risk-free trading. It is possible to lose (part of) your stake.
